Email November 17, 2009

Hi Everybody! Nov 17 2009 We had an experience today that has helped us see the importance of studying the gospel daily. We had a lesson in district meeting last week about starting the day off properly so we will be in tune with the Spirit. The district leader said that the things we study that morning are then available for the Spirit to bring to mind during the day as we need it. We have read the Preach My Gospel Manuel as a mission challenge last month and are now working on having the Book of Mormon read with all the words that refer to Christ highlighted by Dec 31. This has been an amazing adventure so far! We both have commented on the things we have learned that we haven’t noticed before. The mission gave everyone a paperback Book of Mormon to use. I wasn’t going to use it at first, so I started in my regular scriptures. I was two weeks into the assignment when I realized if I used the one they gave us I could write in the margins the things the spirit was teaching me and it wouldn’t matter how it looked. It has turned into a really fun experience. I recommend it to any of you out there to get a cheap Book of Mormon and do the same thing. It helps you think more about what you are reading when you are trying to figure out if the his, him or he is Christ or someone else! So we have been working on this assignment for 1 month and today it paid off. I want to back up just a little and explain how every morning for the past 3 weeks I have been saying “I am attracting people who want to know about Jesus Christ and His church.” We have been sharing the gospel and answering questions more since I have been doing this as we go out visiting members. Well today in the afternoon our doorbell rang and to answer it we have to go out to the main gate. We live in what I call the compound! We are totally fenced in with 10 foot cement and metal walls with metal spikes on top.( Our neighbour to the east of us even as barbed wires on top of the spikes). The front of our place has a metal gate that opens so we can drive our truck in and out, and a small gate we can open so people can come in and out without opening the big gate. It also has some fancy ornamental work so we can see out without opening the gate. We went to the gate and there was a man nicely dressed standing there. He was probably about 40 years old and a missionary for the Jehovah Witness church. He had a surprised look on his face when he seen our name tags. Elder Adams talked with him for a few minutes and then invited him in to talk. He accepted the invite. I gave him a glass of water and he was surprised at that. We sat on the porch for about an hour and talked about various religious topics. We told him that we weren’t real knowledgeable about the Bible but with our scriptures we can cross reference them to the bible. We let him take the lead and we followed along with what we believe. We really had a fun discussion with him. He was a very nice man and seemed to be open minded. Elder Adams would explain things as I looked up the scripture reference, or as the man would read from his bible I would look it up in the King James Version and follow along then use the cross reference to help clarify the meaning. We would never have had the courage to do this at home! The man mentioned as we talked about families that he was not married, but maybe someday he would. I told him that I knew some really nice single ladies in our church, but he would have to join our church before they would date him! We all had a good laugh! He said he had to be going and thanks for the visit. He really enjoyed talking with us and could he come back some time? He also invited us to a Jehovah Witness Convention coming up in Negros Occidental. I reminded him to let us know if he wants to get to know the single ladies! He laughed and waved goodbye. We both felt like the spirit helped us share the truth with this man. We really do make a good team oops sorry that sounded a little prideful! We are sitting here in the dark as another brownout has occurred. Thank goodness the laptop was charged up! Patsy emailed that Nate and Anna’s wedding was real nice and the girls did a wonderful job! Thank you to our wonderful daughters and sons for all they do to make things over here easier to handle! Thank you to our family and friends for your prayers and support! Palangga ta namon!!!!!!!!!!! Halong!!!!!!Elder and Sister Adams ( We love you! Take care!) Happy Thanksgiving to everyone next week! We will be celebrating with the other senior couple by going to the waterfalls near our home and then having a chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and pie! Frozen Turkey here is $5.00 a lb so that is out of the budget! Have fun eating turkey!
