Email Sent July, 15, 2010
Hi every one! It has been awhile since we wrote a good email. We have a lot of things happen the past few weeks. We had the opportunity to go to Panay Island to the last Zone conference before the mission was split. President Tobias invited us to go with them to the Antique District conference that week end while we were on Panay. We had not come prepared to stay longer than overnight, but decided it was a great opportunity to meet Elder Perez and learn from him. Elder and Sister Haviland live in the Antique district so we stayed with them at their home. They weren’t prepared to have company so they had only one foam mattress to sleep on. Elder Adams slept on it and I used the cushion off the couch. It was 30”x60x2”” in size which was better than the bare floor! We washed our clothes out and hung them by the fan at night so they would be dry for the next day. It was worth it!!!!! Elder Perez is a wonderful Area Seventy . I really enjoyed the talks he gave at the leadership training, Adult meeting, Youth meeting, and General meeting. He invited us to share a thought and testimony at the Adult session. We had less than 10 minutes to prepare. I was glad I had taken my notebook with thoughts and my testimony in Tagalog. They speak a different language than Ilonggo or Cebuano. We rode back to Iloilo with them in the van and then caught the 5pm ferry. It was a wonderful weekend! I was worried about my young vegetable plants getting watered but the sister missionaries took care of them and the animals! I decided to see if I could get some vegetables to grow from seeds. We went to the market and bought peppers and tomatoes. I saved the seeds, washed them, put them in a paper towel and ziplock bag, and placed them on top of the fridge for 7 days. When I checked them they had sprouted so I planted them in some containers. They are doing really well. I took them to R.S. on Sunday to show them what they can do to help them become more self -reliant. I gave most of them to the R.S. leadership when we left. I told them to give up some of their flowers and start growing food to eat! The Bacolod mission is officially split. The 16th mission in the Philippines is the Iloilo mission. It was sad to say good-bye to the missionaries that were assigned to that mission. There are 6 missionaries with the last name of ADAMS in the Bacolod Mission. Elder Adams and I stayed in the Bacolod Mission and the other 4 went to the Iloilo Mission. On June 23 we were able to attend a Catholic wedding. Sister Norma is a member of Branch 2. She invited us, the sister missionaries and a few members to attend. It was very interesting! While the Father was giving his sermon the birds were flying in and out of the chapel, people were going in and out of the chapel, at one point two ladies came around with a bag collecting money. The Father finished the ceremony(all in Cebuano) and left the room. The bride and groom stood up and stated to talk. They looked a little confused. The Father came back looking embarrassed, said something and had a picture taken and went out. Come to find out he forgot to say they were married . Their formal clothing was so pretty. The boys wore a fancy shirt and black pants. All the girls wore formal dresses. I hope to be able to attach some pictures. We are now in La Carlota after two trys to move here. We came on July 1 as planned and to our surprise there were 6 missionaries at the house . They had a training in Bacolod so they came to the zone leaders house to stay overnight so they didn’t have to travel so early from their place. We talked about different options and then decided to not stay. Elder Adams drove us back to San Carlos. We called the Haviland’s to see if we could stay overnight. We didn’t get there until almost midnight. I had taken a motion sick pill so I could barely stay awake to help Elder Adams drive. It really is helpful if you have extra eyes at night looking for the pedicabs with no lights or refectors. We arrived save and glad to get back. We ended up staying for 5 days before the place was ready for us to move in. We came back on July 6 at 5pm. The Elders had moved only part of their stuff, so we helped them move some more things. It was getting late so they said they would come back another day. Today is July 9 and we still have some of their stuff. It is now all loaded in our truck so when they come we will take it to their house. We have spent two days cleaning the house and unpacking. We are almost done and feel like we are getting settled in. We have had some members come by and say hi. The temperature is a little cooler here and it rains a lot more, but is still hot! Hope to be able to write again soon about some of our experiences! Love Elder and Sister Adams ps trouble with internet so it is July 15,wanted pictures but no luck!
